Tuesday nite ride 08.03.11

I havn't had the chance to ride a Suzuki DL1000 before, so this week I took that on our Tuesday night ride !!

And I would have to say I was impressed. We were heading up to Terrace Downs resort for tea and not much further up the road is the Lake Colleridge power station. To get there is all sealed road, but because the Suzuki DL1000 is designed for abit of adventure exploring as well, I turned right, winding my way 7kms up the shingle road to the edge of the lake where the intake for the power station is. Being an old MX rider from way back I do like riding touring or sports bikes, but I did like the power of the V-Twin. It certainly dosn't hit like a SV1000, but thats fine. It still had more than enough. Being short, and there is a bit of weight in the DL, it would suit somebody a little taller than me, but I took my time and tip toed up the shingle road and the DL certainly behaved itself. If you wanted to do more of that kind of exploring, you may wish to go for a slightly more aggressive tyre choice. The screen is fantastic for that more upright riding style and being adjustable for the taller rider would be great. I can now see why those people who own a Suzuki V-Strom love them, as they would be a great comfortable bike to tour NZ on !!!
